Though rats will eat almost anything you offer to them, I like to bake for them sometimes. These
recipes are basically broken down from their original recipe so that you don't make too much. You can
add vitamins or powdered formula for sick or pregnant/lactating rats.

OATMEAL COOKIES
Ingredients: 5 tbs. Margarine 1/3 cup Brown Sugar 1/8 cup Sugar
1/2 Egg Dash of Vanilla 1/2 cup Applesauce 1/2 cup Flour 1 cup. Oats or All-Bran
cereal (ground in a processor)
Preheat oven to 350. Beat margarine and sugars until creamy
then add egg, vanilla and applesauce and mix. Now mix in the ground Oats or All-Bran cereal. Shape
into 1/2 inch balls and place on lightly sprayed baking sheet, spaced 1-inch apart. Bake for 7-8 mins.
It makes about 50-60 cookies. Because of the obvious sugary content, I would only give them one a
day. Refrigerate the leftover cookies.

CHICKEN AND RICE
Ingredients: 1/2 cup Rice (not the precooked kind) 1/2 Chicken Breast
- cut into small pieces 1/4 cup Carrots, finely chopped 1/4 cup Celery, finely chopped 1
1/2 cup Water
Put all the ingredients in a saucepan and cook covered until Rice and Chicken is
cooked through. This is especially good for rats who are feeling ill or for older ones who can't
eat solid food. You can either take the chicken pieces out, or just leave them...my guys love chicken.
You could probably add any other vegetables to this and you could use white or brown rice. You may
also want to sprinkle some baby cereal on top before you serve it to them. Refrigerate any leftovers
and heat it up before you give more to them. If you leave it in the cage for them, throw out what they
didn't eat after a few hours.

PUMPKIN CUPCAKES
Ingredients: 3/4 cup Flour 1/2 tsp. Baking Powder dash of Cinnamon
1/2 Egg 1/4 cup Brown Sugar 3/4 tbs Apple Juice or Cider dash of Vanilla 2/3 cup
pureed Pumpkin, canned or fresh cooked 1/8 cup chopped Nuts (optional)
Preheat oven to 350.
Sift the dry ingredients in a large bowl. In another bowl beat egg, sugar, vanilla and apple juice. Add
the liquid to the dry ingredients and stir well. Then stir in pumpkin and nuts. Pour into lightly sprayed
mini-muffin pans and bake for 25-30 mins or until toothpick comes out clean. I like to make this
around the holidays but I also make this for their birthday. I add a mini-carrot stick in the middle
for a birthday candle.
